Business Spotlight: Royal Home Health Services, Inc.
In May of 2008, as the US economy was beginning to contract, Abayomi Joel and his wife, Ayola, started their very own company, Royal Home Health Services Inc. (RHHS), to provide healthcare services to seniors in the Oak Park neighborhood near Chicago. RHHS provides skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, private pay duty, and the popular homemaker service. Included in the homemaker services are bed-baths, feeding, medication reminders, housework, and companionship, enabling seniors to stay in the comfort of their own homes.
Abayomi had worked as a real estate agent since earning his license in 2004, but with the housing market collapse in early 2008, he was looking to start a new venture. At the same time, while working as a registered nurse, Ayola recognized a growing demand for in-home healthcare services as more and more seniors were being turned away by traditional home health providers. The Joels’ passion for helping those less fortunate combined with the high demand in the healthcare industry manifested itself in the creation of Royal Home Health Services.
As members of Leo Club International, the youth wing of Lions Club International, Abayomi and Ayola gained the skills and training necessary to provide quality healthcare services. After being turned down by the larger banking institutions as credit markets tightened, they were able to secure a loan from Accion Chicago, allowing them to make payroll and continue operations, saving numerous jobs. “We say a big thank you to Accion Chicago for being there when we needed them most,” says Abayomi.
Today, RHHS still provides needed healthcare services to the elderly, bringing comfort and treatment conveniently into their homes. Accion is proud to support the Joels in achieving their dream and making a difference to so many in their community.
